Frodsham’s Get Fit on Foot Group have grown in numbers steadily over the years.
Residents of Frodsham may have noticed a “crocodile” of happy, chatty people snaking around the pathways of the town on Wednesday mornings. This is our “health walk”, open to all and free of charge!
It started nearly five years ago, when one of the town council’s events in the Festival of Walks was “Get Fit on Foot”. Some town councillors plus keen walkers trained to become leaders under the umbrella of “Walk for Life”, and thus our regular Wednesday walks began.
The popularity of our walks has increased greatly, with numbers rising from an average of 10 to 25. Significantly, the attitude of our regular attendees has shifted with regard to the weather – “come rain or shine”, a good number turn up for this enjoyable exercise and social contact! (Interestingly, although a walk may be cancelled at the leader’s discretion owing to adverse weather conditions, this has never needed to happen.) One of the pleasures for leaders, who have devised the routes, is when members of the group exclaim,
I’ve never been here before!”
Our health walks are now administered by Age UK Cheshire, with Frodsham Town Council supporting the scheme practically and enthusiastically. Come along and give it a try: we start from the back door of Castle Park House at 10.30 every Wednesday & walk for about one hour. You may even discover parts of Frodsham you didn’t know existed!
