Members of Frodsham’s WW1 Commemoration Group are busy finalising plans for their last two events before the Group disbands after the centenary of Peace Celebrations.
As plans developed for the commemoration of events held nationally in July 1919, the Group was eager to involve the community in its programme and, after considering various options, decided to hold interschool sports for pupils from our four primary schools and to arrange musical performances for the residents of our four care homes.
The Inter-School Sports will be held in conjunction with the annual Festival in the Park being organised by Frodsham & Helsby Rotary Club on Sunday 7 July 2019. The children’s races will take place from 1.30 to 2.30pm at Top Field, Castle Park, Frodsham.
The Group is also participating in the Festival and hopes to welcome visitors to its stall.
The full programme of performances at the residential homes is nearing completion.
Group member Pammi Taylor said
“It has been quite a journey from the inception of our Group in 2013. Researching and organising events involving the community has been hard work, but satisfying, and also a learning experience for us. Knowing that these are our final events is very emotional. We are grateful to the Head Teachers & staff of the four primary schools and the Rotary Club for their help in arranging the Sports event. A few volunteers are still needed to act as marshals. We now hope that good weather will stay with us for the day. Our thanks also go to F&D Choral Society and Kath Povall for their support of the programme for care homes and we also appreciate the co-operation of the staff of the four homes.”
