Frodsham Mayor Cllr Liam Jones recently helped present shields to the winners in the District Finals of Rotary GB’s annual public speaking competition.
The competition sees teams of three participants presenting arguments and points of discussion, before taking questions from the judging panel who are, themselves, skilled orators.
This year the winners in each age group came from Bedford High School Leigh. The younger team’s chosen topic was “Saving Earth: Our Biggest Challenge is also our Most Important” and the senior team tackled “The Education System: Is it Inadequate?”
The Mayor said:
“This was a brilliant, fantastic and informative display of youth speaking at the Rotary District Youth Speaks competition 2019 – 2020, hosted by Frodsham & Helsby Rotary Club at Forest Hills Hotel. We saw schools from around the North West take part to speak about topics pertinent to them, from climate change to scoliosis screening.
“I would like to congratulate the winners, Bedford High School on their fantastic delivery. I would also like to thank the Frodsham & Helsby Rotary Club, the president and Warren Heyes for organising and hosting it in Frodsham.
“One of the things I took away from thus was my conversation with Peter James-Robinson MBE, District Governor Elect of Rotary District 128, who spoke so highly of Frodsham & Helsby Rotary and the work they do all year round for Frodsham and their charities.”
