A533 Expressway Bridge Replacement Scheme- New A533 Expressway bridge open for traffic
We plan to close the A533 Expressway, between Preston Brook and Murdishaw roundabout for two consecutive weekends in April. This is so we can complete surfacing work and open the new bridge for traffic. The dates for these closures are:
- 7pm, Friday 14 April to 6am, Monday 17 April
- Monday 17 April to Thursday 20 April, 7pm to 6am
- 7pm, Friday 21 April to 6am, Monday 24 April
This work will require a full closure in both directions. However, access via the bridge will be retained for walkers and cyclists, who will be assisted through the closures. Diversion routes will be fully signposted for drivers, making use of the local A558 and A533 roads.
The new bridge will open for traffic at 6am on Monday 17 April.
I would also like to take this opportunity to give you advanced notice of two full weekend closures we have planned in May. This is so we can demolish the old bridge. The M56 motorway will be closed in both directions between junction 11 and 12. At the same time the A533 Expressway bridge will be closed between Preston Brook and Murdishaw roundabout and the A56 will be closed between the rail bridge and the A533. The dates for these closures are:
- Friday 12 May to Monday 15 May
- Friday 19 May to Monday 22 May
We recognise that these closures, while necessary for the completion of this major project, could cause some disruption to local communities. We would be grateful if you would share details of the closures and diversions via your channels to ensure local residents are informed of these closures.
