Frodsham & Helsby Rotary Club Marks 47th Charter Anniversary and Honours Cllr Helen Hayes with Prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship

Helen Hayes & Frank Holland at Rotary Awards

Last Friday, 21 November 2025, the Rotary Club of Frodsham & Helsby proudly celebrated its 47th Charter Anniversary, the Club’s birthday, at Helsby Golf Club.

President Frank Holland welcomed more than 50 Rotarians and distinguished guests, including Cllr Helen Hayes, to an evening recognising service, fellowship, and Rotary’s enduring commitment to the community.

Founded in 1905 by Paul Harris, Rotary International has long championed the guiding principle of “Service Above Self.” One of its most significant honours, the Paul Harris Fellowship (PHF), is awarded to individuals whose outstanding contributions reflect Rotary’s highest ideals and the spirit of humanitarian service.

Although the PHF is most commonly awarded to Rotarians, it is on rare and special occasions presented to non-Rotarians whose exceptional dedication mirrors Rotary’s own values. This year, the Rotary Club of Frodsham & Helsby had the great privilege of conferring a Paul Harris Fellowship on Cllr Helen Hayes.

In presenting the award, President Holland noted:

“Cllr Hayes has consistently volunteered her time across numerous local projects, helping to make Frodsham a more welcoming, supportive, and vibrant place for both residents and visitors. She has advised and assisted Rotary with enthusiasm, fairness, and genuine community spirit. Her service embodies the principles we uphold, and had she been a Rotarian, she would most certainly have earned this honour just the same.”

The Club also noted that the last non-Rotarian to receive this distinction was George Bunner MBE PHF, recently deceased and fondly remembered for his significant contributions to the community.

President Holland added:

“Bestowing a Paul Harris Fellowship is not something we do lightly. It reflects not only our gratitude but our belief in the profound and positive impact the recipient has had on the community. Cllr Hayes exemplifies that impact.”

The Rotary Club of Frodsham & Helsby extends its warmest congratulations to Cllr Helen Hayes and thanks all who joined in celebrating this important milestone in the Club’s history.
