NOTICE OF PROPOSAL
CHESHIRE WEST AND CHESTER BOROUGH COUNCIL
A56 CHESTER ROAD, FRODSHAM
(40MPH SPEED LIMIT)
PROPOSED ORDER 2022
Notice is hereby given that the Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council propose to make an Order under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers.
- The effect of the order will be to introduce a 40mph speed limit on A56 Chester Road, Frodsham. The new proposed limits are set out in the Schedule below.
- Full details showing the proposals are contained in the draft order which, together with a map showing the affected area; the Council’s statement of reasons for making the order and a copy of this Notice, may be examined during the usual office hours at the following offices;

- The One Stop Shop, Watling Street, Northwich, Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council, Wyvern House, The Drumber, Winsford, Cheshire CW7 1AH
- All objections and other representations relating to the Order must be made in writing and objections must specify the grounds on which they are made, to the undersigned quoting reference TRO 3428 by 18/04/2022.
SCHEDULE – 40 MPH SPEED LIMIT
A56 Chester Road, Frodsham – from a point 425 metres east from its junction with Godscroft Lane to a point 23 metres west of Mattys Lane junction.
STATEMENT OF REASONS
The section of A56 Chester Road, Frodsham advertised for the speed limit reduction spans from the existing speed limit change east of Godscroft Lane (40mph limit) to the existing 30mph speed limit 23 metres west of Mattys Lane junction. This section links Helsby and Frodsham and is a rural road with few accesses. Mixed local access/through traffic function. At present this section of the A56 has a 50mph speed limit.
The speed limit is being introduced as part of the A56 Chester Road Cycleway Improvement Scheme. The reduction will improve road safety on this route & encourage cyclists to utilise the upgraded facility. The proposal is supported by the Police, the Parish Councils and the local CWAC Members.
