Frodsham Town Council Tree Dedication Event

On 1st May 2024 Frodsham Town Council were delighted to be joined by 5 Frodsham schools, The High Sheriff of Cheshire and recipient of the British Empire Medal -Thomas Blundell, for a tree dedication event on Frodsham Memorial Hill.

7 oak trees were donated by Frodsham Town Council and planted in the spring of 2022, as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy 2022 – 2023, which was a UK-wide tree planting initiative created to mark the 2022 Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth ll.

Plaques to honour and commemorate the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee were placed at the foot of 6 of the young oak trees and were unveiled at the event by each of the 5 Frodsham schools and Tom Blundell.

A plaque to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles lll was also placed at the foot of the 7th oak tree and was unveiled by The High Sheriff of Cheshire, Clare Hayward.

The children were given some wild flower seed to scatter around the trees, then after the event all of the guests were treated to refreshments and biscuits at the Forest Hills Hotel, whilst the children were interested to hear about the role and duties of The High Sheriff of Cheshire and also got to see and hold the British Empire Medal which was presented to Tom Blundell in 2023 for services to the community in Frodsham.

Chair and Councillor of Frodsham Town Council, Helen Hayes

“I was delighted that Frodsham Town Council was able to plant seven English Oak Trees as part of the late Queen’s Green Canopy.  It was a great opportunity to include each of our schools in the Tree Dedication Ceremony and the young people seemed thrilled to be involved.  Having both our High Sheriff, Clare Hayward and Tom Blundell (British Empire Medal) was an added bonus, and whom the young people enjoyed meeting and talking to at the Forest Hills Hotel over refreshments”.

Gemma Callaghan, Head of School – Frodsham Primary Academy

“The children had a lovely day, thank you for inviting us along”.

Vivienne, Administrator – Frodsham CE Primary School

“What a lovely photo. I will put it in the school newsletter”.

Vivienne also shared how the children really enjoyed meeting the High Sheriff, and that it had inspired one little girl to hopefully become the High Sheriff of Cheshire when she is older.

Eileen Murtagh, Headteacher – St Lukes Catholic Primary School

“Thank you for the kind invitation.  Our children felt it was a privilege to be part of such a momentous occasion. They told everyone about their experience at our assembly on Friday”.

Debbie Jones – EA to the High Sheriff of Cheshire – Clare Hayward MBE

“I am so glad the event went so well, and it sounded like all the children enjoyed it. Clare was telling me what a great event it was, and how much she had enjoyed it too”.
