On Thursday 8th May 2025 and during the course of the week, a number of celebrations took place in Frodsham, some of which were facilitated and funded by Frodsham Town Council.

- On Tuesday a 1940s afternoon tea styled buffet served on vintage china crockery, was provided to members of Frodsham’s OPAL Group, all home made and delivered by ‘Til Death Bakery.
“Thanks so much for the afternoon tea. It was amazing, all so tasty and well presented.” Zoe. Kelsall, Frodsham and Helsby Club and Good Neighbour North Organiser.

- On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday a fish & chip lunch was provided to the residents of Newton Hall, Chapelfields and Hillcrest Care Homes, 4Seasons4Food Chip Shop on Main Street, Frodsham were kept very busy on these three days and did a superb job in preparing and serving up a number of portions which were then collected by staff from each of the care homes at allocated times.
“Could I just say a massive thank you for the fish and chips , the residents absolutely loved it. It was so nice to see them enjoying a traditional food.” Julia Adamson, Manager, Newton Hall Residential Care Home.

- The VE Day 80 celebrations began at 9am on Thursday 8th May with the raising of the VE Day Flag at St Laurence Church, Frodsham.
- The Scouts and Guides enjoyed a sunny evening picnic in Castle Park from 5.30pm, where they had a visit from the Town Crier of Chester, David Mitchell, who delivered the ‘VE Day 80 Proclamation’ at 6pm.
- At 6.30pm St Laurence Church bells rang out over the Town of Frodsham, just as many bells would have been rung throughout Europe 80 years ago in declaration of Victory in Europe.
- At 9pm Frodsham Town Council together with St Laurence Church celebrated VE Day 80 with a congregation of residents and a number of organisations including the 3rd Frodsham and 4th Frodsham Scouts, Girlguiding Cheshire Forest, Frodsham & Helsby Rotarians and Fire Officers from Frodsham Fire Station, to name but a few, at Frodsham War Memorial on Overton Hill, Frodsham.
The event began with a welcome from Reverend Elaine Attack of St Laurence Church. Rotarian Mike Collins, who’s father was a pilot in the second world war and was shot down and killed in Normandy, read the VE Day 80 Proclamation. Prayers and a blessing were delivered by Reverend Elaine.
- At 9.30pm the VE Day 80 beacon was lit by Jack, one of the Scouts and four peace lamps were lit by members of the Girl Guides. The evening concluded with a rendition of the hymn ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’ led by Frodsham’s One Voice Choir.

Frodsham Town Council would like to extend their many thanks to all the residents and organisations who took part in the VE Day 80 celebrations on the hill and throughout the week, without whom many of the events would not be possible.
