Frodsham Medieval May Day Celebration a Great Success

Frodsham Town Council’s Medieval May Day event on Saturday 2nd May was held in excellent spirits, bringing together families, residents, and visitors for a vibrant afternoon of community celebration.

The event featured a range of traditional activities and entertainment, with Kinnerton Morris, Morris Dancers and Same Difference Dance, Maypole Dancing proving particularly popular. A large number of children and adults took part, creating a lively display that was enjoyed by spectators throughout the afternoon.

Music and merriment throughout the afternoon were provided by The Medieval Princes, whose lively medieval-themed performances helped create an authentic and festive atmosphere within Castle Park. Their engaging mix of traditional music, humour, audience interaction and wandering entertainment proved popular with visitors of all ages and added greatly to the spirit and character of the event.

Visitors also enjoyed a range of hands-on medieval activities provided by Enchanted Forage, including feather quill making, medieval flower crown workshops and foraging-inspired experiences, which proved especially popular with families and children. Vale Royal Falconry added to the medieval atmosphere with an impressive display of birds of prey, giving attendees the opportunity to see the birds up close and learn more about traditional falconry practices.

Feedback from attendees indicated that the entertainment was well received and added to the festive atmosphere of the day.

A selection of food and drink vendors was also available on site, including a traditional hog roast, craft beer, traditional cider and mead, alongside the existing facilities within Castle Park – Cheeky Café and Castle Park Arts Centre Café which both offered refreshments, snacks, hot and cold food and ice cream throughout the event.

The Town Council would like to thank all volunteers, performers, and visitors who helped make the day such a success. Special thanks are extended to everyone involved in planning, setting up, and supporting the event on the day.

Overall, the Medieval May Day celebration was a joyful and well-attended community occasion, and the Council looks forward to building on its success in future years.

Comments from some of the performers & participants:

Ann – Same Difference Dance
“Mike and I, and our surprise-visitor musician Donna, thought it was a splendid afternoon: imaginatively planned and carefully organised.”

Amy – Enchanted Forage
“I was so happy with the flow of all the activities / other things going on! We have only praise for you guys in how you brought it all together and especially for you being so approachable and organised throughout it all Helen! We would certainly love to be apart of next year’s Medieval May Day and I think it’s a truly great way to bring all the community together so yes, we’d be more than happy to help with the planning/ activities and focused workshops!”

Nanette & Phil – Vale Royal Falconry
“It was a super event and visitors seemed to be enjoying everything on site – we had great feedback from people seeing the birds. So many said they had never seen particular birds up close and some shared what they had seen in the wild. I had two ladies from Manchester who saw your advert & looked us up on trip advisor and came because of what they read! We were so surprised! We had local people too who saw your flyer who said they came because of that. As the event was medieval we printed out some old falconry sayings to display and share & many people were surprised to learn them – and also find out about the book of St Albans & what status a man was determined what bird of prey they could fly. It was a real engaging day with everyone and the people who attended were really interested and came specifically for your event. Very friendly, respectful people. It was a real pleasure taking part in your event and we appreciated being involved.”
