On Friday, Councillors Mallie Poulton and Judith Critchley attended a service, led by Father Michael Mills, at St Laurence Parish Church to unveil and dedicate a beautiful mosaic by Chester mosaic artist Aleta Doran.
Entitled ‘Church and Community’, the piece was commissioned by Councillor Mallie Poulton and given to the people of Frodsham to mark his successful year as Town Mayor 2016-17.
The mosaic is made of Italian vitreous glass in a variety of effects/finishes, Turkish recycled glass and gold smalti made by Orsoni of Venice. Cllr Poulton asked for the design to incorporate a Tree of Life combined with a bee, the symbol of Frodsham. The gold stars were inspired by the mosaics in the chapel at Eaton Hall, Chester. For further inspiration the artist looked at ancient Egyptian art and the mosaics of Rome and Ravenna.
