Dear Residents,
We wanted to contact you and let you know about some exciting plans that are moving forward at Saltworks Farm Playing Fields.
Over the summer you may have noticed that a variety of outdoor summer activity sessions took place at Saltworks Farm, there were a number of free activities for children and young people to take part in. We’ve received really great feedback from this, including ideas on what would make the site better, more accessible and what would encourage people to visit again in the future, and we would like to hear more of these ideas!
One of the suggestions was regarding the maintenance of the front hedge (next to the play area), people felt at times it can look untidy, too high and obscures the view in and out of the site. Due to bird nesting season we were unable to cut back the hedge over the summer period however we are now in a position to lower the hedge, remove some of the overgrown foliage on the entrances to the site and allow there to be better visibility in general. We plan on starting this work in November.
The planting surrounding the changing rooms has also been flagged as looking untidy so we will be addressing this in the coming weeks, we plan on removing the shrubs in the beds around the building, leaving soil in place over the Winter and we ask if you would help us re-plant in the New Year with some smaller colourful plants like heather or lavender.
We are also working with Weavervale Primary School regarding safer connections into the school from Saltworks, potentially through installing a side gate and pathway. We will continue to have these discussions and seek funding to enable this to happen. We’d really like to see the car park at Saltworks used by parents as a drop off and pickup zone to help reduce congestion on Ship Street.
Kind Regards,
Cllr Riley and Cllr Basey
