Work has now started on the construction of the cycleway improvement scheme between Helsby High School and Frodsham. We will keep you updated regularly on how the scheme is progressing.
Programme of works
Works will continue over the next few months, in a series of phases, working from the High School up to Howey Lane, Frodsham. The main area of work will continue to be carried out under two sets of temporary traffic signals, at relevant distances apart, along the proposed route.
We are currently working to programme and still aiming to be completed by Easter, pending no issues of inclement weather and/or Covid restrictions.
The first section between (location 1a) Chestnut Lane and the Garage near Woodhouses Lane is completed to a temporary stage so pedestrians are now able to use this section. Further works will still be required later in the phasing of the programme. Works will now move to location 2a as shown below.
The works section further along the route (location 1b) near to the existing layby is near completion and we are preparing to move to the next phase set up (location 2b below).
Please note that the temporary enforceable reduced speed limit of 30mph in place from Proffits Lane (near to the school) up to Dig Lane, Frodsham will remain in place for the full duration of the works.
WORKS UPDATE: For week beginning 24 January and for the next two weeks ahead:
Works will continue under a double phase set up – both sections working under temporary traffic signals to construct the improvements on the south-east side of the road. The works locations will be moving up further along, towards Frodsham, under the second phase of the programme.
As from Tuesday 25 January:
Works location 2a: From the Nursery, across Woodhouses Lane (which will be closed when working around the junction area) up to the caravan park.
This set up will unfortunately mean that the bus stops near the caravan park will be temporarily out of use until it is safe to re-open them when we move our works phases in approximately three weeks’ time.
Access out of the caravan park will be within the signals area, so please be aware that vehicles will have to join on the back of any direction of traffic flow, which will require additional care when exiting.
Works location 2b: the current location will relocate further along the route towards Frodsham, and will continue up to the Tarvin Road junction.
The temporary traffic signals to the works areas will remain in place at all times. However, as previously informed our roadworks do come with the contingency that all works must be able to be removed in a speedy manner if an incident should occur on the M56, due to this being the key emergency diversion route.
Unfortunately, as with all construction works some disruption is inevitable. We will always work with local residents, businesses and schools to try to reduce any such impact wherever possible. If you have any queries regarding the scheme please do not hesitate to contact us on 0300 123 7 036.
