A56 Chester Road – Active Travel Scheme
Roadworks Update 7 – Tuesday 14 June 2022
We are now into the last phases of construction of the active travel improvement scheme between Helsby High School and Frodsham.
Programme of works
Works are currently continuing on the north side of the A56 installing the separator between the new cycleway and the carriageway. The next couple of weeks will also include finishing works along the scheme: completing the north side cycleway separator; completing the cabling and electrical connections to the street lighting; carrying out final preparation and remedial works on the south side of the new cycleway; final surfacing of the shared use footway/cycleway areas; tidying up the verge areas, and grass seeding ready for the proposed planting in September/October time.
Work will continue predominantly under temporary traffic signals. The north side footway has now been re-opened for use, as there is sufficient width to maintain a safe working area between the works and the pedestrians. Please can we ask that pedestrians remain aware of the works when walking alongside our construction areas.
Please note that the temporary enforceable reduced speed limit of 30mph is still in place from Proffits Lane (near to the school) up to Dig Lane, Frodsham and will continue to remain in place until the works are completed. When the works are finished, the section of road between Helsby and Frodsham which was a 50mph, will now be a permanent 40mph speed limit. This has been advertised and will come into force upon completion of the works.
Just a quick note to say well done to the cycle group who used some of the temporary facility when they recently carried out a fundraiser for Alder Hey Children’s Charity. They are still collecting and receiving donations on the Frodsham and Helsby Rotary Club ‘JustGiving’ page and collected over £700 on the day.
