Frodsham Juniors FC link with Man City

Frodsham Juniors FC has joined forces with Manchester City Women FC (MCWFC) as part of their affiliated club Scheme.

MCWFC who are members of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League (WSL) play their home games at the Academy Stadium, which forms part of the Ethiad Campus in Manchester.

Frodsham Juniors FC have an established and growing girls section, which is now one of the biggest in the Cheshire area. The Club, which is also a member of the SSE Wildcats Scheme providing girls aged 5-11 from Frodsham, Helsby and the surrounding community with regular opportunities to play football, also runs girls’ teams from under 8s through to under 18s. Frodsham JFC have joined the MCWFC Affiliate Club programme to support the development of girls football and plan to expand the number of teams and female coaches within the Club.

The programme has been specially designed for grass-roots clubs, helping them to promote and develop female football through affiliation with their local WSL team. Frodsham currently have over 100 female players across seven girls’ teams and would like to increase this to offer more children the chance to play, as well as providing further opportunities to those already involved.

As a Sister Club, Frodsham JFC will have be able access a range of opportunities including coaching workshops, match day tickets and senior player appearances at events which can be enjoyed by the whole club.

Rebecca Walkden, MCWFC Operations Manager, commented;

It’s great to have a local team involved with the Affiliate Club programme. Frodsham JFC have great ambitions to grow the women’s and girl’s game in the area and it’s great through the Sister Club programme that we are able to support this.

Chris Jennings, Head of Girls football at Frodsham JFC said;

Becoming a Sister Club of Manchester City Women FC demonstrates our ambition to become the leading grassroots club for female football in Cheshire and the surrounding area. Having the support of Manchester City Women FC will ensure we continue to develop both our players and coaching teams alike.

Frodsham Juniors FC Chairman Nigel Cuniffe stated;

We are delighted to begin our new partnership with Manchester City Women FC. Our girls’ teams continue to grow and improve year on year and we look forward to working with Manchester City Women in what we hope will be a long and beneficial association.
